2 months, 4 weeks agoResult Declaration and Percentile Calculation
The JEE Main results are typically announced within 2-3 weeks after the exam. For the January session, results are usually declared by February, while the April session results come out by late April or early May. Students can check their results on the official NTA website (jeemain.nta.ac.in).
The percentile score in JEE Main is different from a simple percentage. It is calculated based on the relative performance of all candidates. The formula used is:
Percentile = (Number of candidates who scored equal to or less than you / Total number of candidates) × 100
For example, if 1,00,000 students appeared for the exam and 90,000 scored less than you, your percentile would be (90,000 / 1,00,000) × 100 = 90.00.
Since JEE Main is conducted in multiple sessions, normalization is applied to ensure fairness, adjusting for any variations in difficulty across different shifts.

This explanation about JEE Main results and percentile calculation is really helpful! I was always confused about how the percentile system works, but now it makes sense. The formula and example given (comparing 90,000 students scoring less out of 1,00,000 = 90.0 percentile) clarified everything. Also, knowing that normalization adjusts for difficulty across sessions is reassuring. Just one question—does the official result show both the percentile and raw marks, or just the percentile? Thanks for breaking it down so clearly!
